

Raised on the C.J. Whitney Estate with his sister and two brothers, Richard was the son of Mr. Whitney’s personal carpenter. This early influence ignited his passion for carpentry and craftsmanship.
Dick attended Hicksville High School and, after graduation, ventured into the world of business by starting his own company. His career took him to the Florida Keys, where he and his partner built 30 homes in Marathon. He later returned to New York, where he dedicated 25 years to working with New York Tech. Additionally, Dick served as an equipment manager for the New York Jets and spent a few years with Donald Trump’s American League football team.
In 2000, Dick married Marilyn Cafferty, and they would have celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on January 21, 2025.
A dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus, Dick received his first degree in New York and achieved up to four further degrees in Florida. His love for work and his involvement in numerous projects brought him many friends and deep respect from those around him.
Dick was a man of integrity and dedication, cherished by all who knew him. He will be remembered for his warmth, commitment, and the many lives he touched throughout his remarkable life.
A visitation for Richard will be held Monday, August 12, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Serenity Funeral Home, 13401 Indian Rocks Road, Largo, FL 33774. A religious ceremony will occur Tuesday, August 13, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at St. Patrick Church, 1507 Trotter Rd, Largo, FL 33770.
