Dear Wayne and family...I am so sorry for your loss. It took me by surprise and it is still so hard to accept. My prayers are with you daily. I can not begin to tell all the stories of what it was to work with your dad, there just isn't enough room here! He and I always enjoyed working together and I am sure many of our co - workers can attest there never was a dull moment when you worked with Bob. Just sitting here writing this I have so many good memories and laughing at the things we had encountered. As we all go through this thing called "Life" we meet many interesting people and Bob Daniels was one of the most interesting. When we all meet again after our life here on earth is over, I will be looking for Bob just to share another good railroad story.

I met Bob when we both started attending Union meetings.  We were brothers by trade but grew into so much more than that.  We became friends.  Not casual friends but true friends.  We could talk for hours on the phone about anything and everything and sometimes nothing at all.  His stories kept me and my family entertained for the better part of 16yrs.  Our visits and camping trips to the "real" south Jersey will be etched in our memories forever.  It didn't matter if it was Lucy the Elephant in Margate, an Atlantic City Surf baseball game where an umpire had to be Med e Vacced out, a driving tour thru Hammonton (The Blue Berry Capital of the World), Ocean City NJ, the USS New Jersey, a flag ceremony at Sunset Beach, an Atlantic League All-Star game with a fog delay,and perhaps my favorite,  a trip on the Auto Train to Florida   to catch a couple of spring training games. That was just one side of Bob.  No one was more loyal and dedicated to the Brotherhood than Bob. His vision for the future of our craft was uncanny.  He spearheaded an Ergonomics Committee, a Mentor Program and most people gawked.  His efforts to educate Brother and Sister Locomotive Engineers were tireless.  On his own time and at his own expense he created a widely popular website and newsletter for Division 373 members.  Both turned out to be very useful tools for our craft.  Still today, other Railroads use the model our Ergonomics Committee created.  Designing operating cabs that reduce repetitive motion injuries, and fatigue for Engineers is now an industry standard.  And while the idea of a Mentor Program came from the National Division, Bob took it two steps further.  Again, on his own time and expense, he created and distributed pamphlets to each newly promoted Newark Division Engineer.  And he always did so on his own rest period.  Today's Mentors still use the ideas Bob created.  And who among us remembers Bob's first Mentoring project, J.B.!!!
There was another side of Bob that many of his co-workers never saw.  There was DJ Bob working at a local radio station spinning his favorite records.  He also used that talent to give back to the community where he lived.  He played his music in Nursing Homes and even directed the music at his local church.  Bob was also very active in local Veterans Organizations . 
Bob Daniels, the butcher, the baker and the candlestick maker.  While I can't vouch for the first two, I can attest to the Last.
To Carole, Kristin, Wayne, Abigail, and Aaron: I am truly sorry for your loss.  Please accept my deepest condolences.  
To my friend Bob: The Good Lord decided your work here is done.  Rest in Peace, Brother.

When God made Bob Daniels , he was one of those that he broke the of, so there wouldn't be any others. Like a strong IPA, you either loved him or hated him, there was no in between or half way. He was stubborn, fiercely loyal, outspoken, loud, loving and obnoxious. Diplomacy and compromise where not in his vocabulary. He toiled tirelessly for the BLE as a whole, and Divisions 373 in particular. He started, wrote, edited, printed and distributed his own Union news letter. He later created His Own website, where he independently championed the challenges and problems faced by Locomotives Engineerson a daily basis. He created an spearheaded the Mentor Program for Division 373. He led the BLE Ergonomics Committee.

Thank you, Bob, for what you did for me personally, and for all Locomotive Engineers as a whole.

Auntie Carol Im sooo sorry to hear about Uncle Bob :( I wish we all could have been there for this. Im going to miss his weekly phone calls and updates on everything. Love you Karen
