

Robin Marie Westerhorstmann, 62, died peacefully at home on April 16, 2016 after a long battle with brain cancer. She was born in Princeton, West Virginia, on January 11, 1954, to Dorothy Marie Rowland and Edward Lee Rowland. Robin graduated 1972 from Boonsboro High School, Boonsboro, Maryland. She graduated 1980 Magna Cum Laude from Hood College, Frederick Maryland, with a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in art.
From 1981 – 1986 she was Training Instructor for the Army Morale Support Activities, Ft. Richie, Maryland. She was the Public Affairs Specialist (1986 – 1989) for the U.S. Army Recruiting Battalion, Columbus, Ohio and Chief of Advertising and Public Affairs (1986 – 1991), Albany, New York.
From 1991 – 1993 she worked for Continental Airlines Micronesia in Guam. In 1993 she married US Navy LCDR Joseph Henry Westerhorstmann. In 1995, following her husband’s retirement from the US Navy, the couple moved to Frankfurt, Germany where they owned and operated KFC and Pizza Hut restaurants. Along with involvement in the restaurant business, Robin was a freelance artist working with water colors, acrylic and oil painting. From 1995 – 2010 she produced art work, with several exhibits of her work shown in Frankfurt, Germany.
She was diagnosed with brain cancer in December 2010. The cancer went into remission from 2012 until December 2015. After selling their business and real-estate in Germany, Robin and her husband went into retirement and moved to Clearwater, Florida in October 2015. The cancer reappeared in December 2015 and she boldly and courageously fought the disease until her death from the cancer on April 16, 2016.
Robin is survived by her mother (Dorothy Marie Rowland), husband (Joseph Henry Westerhorstmann), Sisters (Julia Bartron and Holly Giles), Stepchildren (Joseph, Amy, Sadie and Arin) as well as five grandchildren and six nieces and nephews.
Robin had a passion for life. She loved the arts, philosophy and spirituality. As a business owner she was involved with the lives and was the mother figure to many of her culturally and nationalistic diverse employees. She had wisdom and humor, was easy to smile and was loved by all who knew her.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday April 30 at Serenity Funeral Home, 13401 Indian Rocks Road, Largo, Florida.
