Marchuk, Walter “Marty”, 93, of Largo, Florida passed away on December 24, 2021. He was born in Woodbridge, New Jersey on August 9, 1928. Walter was the son of Dennis and Stella (Trisch) Marchuk, both were immigrants from Eastern Europe. He was raised on a farm in South River, New Jersey and left high school to work in carpentry, then joined the Navy in 1945. Before going into the Navy, Walter met the girl of his dreams, Elizabeth “Lil” Wirtchock and they married in 1948 after he returned home. Under the GI Bill, he went to refrigeration school and opened Modern Service in South River with his brother Max Marchuk. In 1981, he sold his business and Walt and Lil moved to Largo, Florida where he continued in the refrigeration and appliance business and opened Marty’s Appliance.
Walt and Lil enjoyed traveling and had many wonderful trips. Playing darts and becoming the New Jersey State Champion was a highlight to Walt’s life. He was an avid hunter with family and friends, enjoyed archery using a long bow and shot competitively while in New Jersey. Boating and cruising the beautiful water of the Gulf of Mexico was special to him. Taking the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. to tour the War Memorials with his nephew, Bob Hartzell, was a special day for both of them and the family to welcome Uncle Walt home. In later years, Walt enjoyed gardening and was always willing to help neighbors and friends with repairs. His family enjoyed his stories about life adventures and growing up in New Jersey.
Walt was preceded in death by his parents, Dennis and Stella Marchuk; siblings, John Sowchuk, Olga Feaster, Max Marchuk, Sophie Doeler and Alice Wilson; his wife, Elizabeth and his son, Stephen Marchuk. He is survived by his son, Kenneth Marchuk; grandchildren, Shanen (John) Aranmor, Alison (Brody) Gianotto and Jodi Marchuk; two great-grandchildren, Kyleigh Berube and Bailee Berube; two great-great grandchildren, Eli and Zander Berube; nieces and nephews; George E. Feaster, Gloria Patterson, Dennis Marchuk, James Marchuk, Carles DeGolyer, Johnatha Sowchuk and Brenda Simmons and many great nieces and nephews.
