Anna Maria Cruz Aguilar

Anna Maria C Aguilar was a modest & quiet woman who had a low key approach to her life. She was always willing to reach out to family members and to provide financial assistance without hesitation. It was her own discreet attitude that earned the respect of all who knew her. She was also a woman who was extremely spiritual in the purest catholic sense always praying for to Mama Mary and saying her daily rosary .

Her parents were Fermin Aguilar and Crispina de la Cruz, and she was raised in Las Piñas, Philippines. She had a brother, Isabelo and three sisters, Monica, Potenciana, & Francisca. Even though Anna was the youngest, she was able to financially support her siblings as a working adult. Anna Maria graduated from St. Joseph Academy in 1942. Her favorite class in high school was English. One of her most memorable achievements was being recognized as one of the top 2 students in High School. Anna was a very logical person who enjoyed learning about factual information.

College life brought with it a new set of challenges, but Anna handled them well. Being a critical thinker who always remained intellectually independent, Anna was able to focus on the task at hand in order to complete her class work. She seemed to thrive on college reading assignments, something that often bogged down her classmates. Anna was able to read the material and retain the information in a way that impressed her fellow classmates. The ability to efficiently complete the task at hand was a skill that served Anna well during her college experience. Though she loved learning she did not get the opportunity to finish college due to the outbreak of WWII.

Always considered to be a solid friend, Anna was fortunate to have numerous acquaintances and several very close friends during her life. Since she disliked making generalizations about people and preferred to draw her own conclusions based on direct observation, Anna was able to see beneath the surface of relationships and became a true friend to those who knew her. She was committed to her friends and valued the trust she placed in them. It was not uncommon for Anna to go beyond the call of duty for others, and friends frequently sought her out for advice because she had a knack for coming up with practical solutions to any type of dilemma. While growing up, her best friends were Auring Aravelo & Doray Hans. Later in life, she became close friends with Etiang De la Rosa her co-worker.

Anna Maria greatly enjoyed what she did for a living. She was a hard worker who expected the same in return from her co-workers. She was an efficient worker, one who paid careful attention to detail, allowing sufficient time to complete one task before moving on to the next. Her primary occupation was Telecommunications Specialist. She was employed for 5 years with the US Navy at the Subic Naval Base, 5 years with the US Air Force at the Clark Air Force base and for 20 years with Japan Lines. Anna Maria was extremely proud to earn a living and getting paid with US dollars.

Anna Maria’s favorite pursuits were serving as a volunteer and being involved with prayer groups. Anna found pleasure in sports and was an avid fan of Magic Johnson, Shaquille O’Neill, Kobe Bryant, Lamar Odom, and Tiger Woods. Recreationally, she loved bowling and watching her favorite sporting events whenever she got the opportunity. Tops on her list were the Los Angeles Lakers.

Anna Maria was a woman who was dedicated and devoted to her faith. She was a member St. Joseph Husband of Mary for 16 years and Our Lady of Perpetual Help (Daly City) for 34 years. During that time, she was Holy Rosary Scout, (Legion of Mary) Praesidium of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. She was a sympathetic woman who valued her beliefs and was willing to work tirelessly for them.

Anna Maria enjoyed traveling and taking vacations. She took religious pilgrimage trips to the Holy Land in Israel, Lourdes, France, Fatima, Portugal, Medjugorje, Yugoslavia, & Guadalupe, Mexico. For her 90th birthday, she was in Rome and stood in line for over 4 hours to get inside the Vatican.

Anna Maria was a lover of animals and cherished her pets. Some of Anna’s favorites were Bugsie (Daly City) and Riggs (LV), Shar Pei dogs. They were her best friends, she had Bugsie for 8 years and Riggs for 2 years.

When Anna’s retirement finally arrived in 2003, she was well prepared. She had begun the process early and had her retirement all laid out well in advance. Her new life involved relocating to Las Vegas. In retirement, she found new pleasure in volunteering at hospitals. Even in retirement, Anna continued to stay in touch with her old friends while making plenty of new acquaintances. She was active in her new community and felt fulfilled.

Anna Maria C Aguilar passed away on August 25, 2018 at Spring Valley Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada. She passed away from pneumonia related complications. She is survived by Ramon, her grandnephew, her niece Ofelia, grandnieces Corinne, Camille, Monet, and Monica. Services were held at St. Joseph Husband of Mary Catholic Church.

Commitment is a key word that can be used to describe the life of Anna Maria C Aguilar. She was committed to living the life of a good catholic woman who was both thankful and ever forgiving. She committed her life to being an extremely dedicated women to God and her family.
