Aurora Macagba Sarmiento was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She left us suddenly on January 14, 2024 in Las Vegas, NV at the age of 70 after battling numerous medical issues. She was surrounded by her loved ones who will continue to honor her legacy to the lives she has touched with her care and compassion.
She was born to Leona and Juan Macagba on February 9, 1953 the oldest of 5 sisters with 3 older brothers and one little brother. Aurora graduated from St. Rita Hospital School of Nursing and Midwifery on January 15, 1977 in Manila, Philippines to become a midwife. After migrating over to the United States in 1978 she continued to pursue a career in the medical field where she became a Certified Nursing Assistant for Alta Bates in Berkley, CA. Aurora’s love and selflessness resonated in her passion to care for others, friends, family and strangers alike.
Aurora quickly found love in the United States where she met her one and only husband Sofronio Sarmiento for 42 years of marriage. Together they raised 4 children, Shieryl, Vanessa, Sidwell, Anthony and 9 grandchildren. She loved to cook, tailor and farm as many fruits and vegetables as she can so that she can use it in all her dishes and nurture as many plants and flowers as she could.
Aurora was always surrounded by big families her whole life and she loved the idea of having everyone together under one roof. Friends would come over to the house and immediately she would offer a delicious Filipino dish that she made. During family gatherings all of her siblings would work together in the kitchen each one prepping or cooking a dish for everyone to feast.
She dedicated her life to her family and she accepted the sacrifices that had to be made in order to maintain a happy family. She worked tirelessly and always did her best to give her children, siblings, husband and friends a better life. She navigated through adversity being an immigrant and shared that opportunity by welcoming numerous family members from the Philippines to establish successful lives in the United States.
Aurora welcomed everyone into her life with arms wide open, her generous soul never let anyone feel alone, her respectful personality never made anyone feel judged, her caring heart kept everyone and their stomachs full. Her loyalty to family, faith and her husband defined her soul from her life in the Philippines to the amazing fulfilled life she had in the United States.
Family will receive friends at Palm Southwest Mortuary, 7979 W. Warm Springs Rd. from 9:30-11:30am. Services will follow at Christ the King Catholic Church, 4925 S. Torrey Pines Dr. with eulogies at 12:30pm and funeral mass at 1pm, all on Thursday, February 1, 2024.
