"I am awesome like my kids, and you should love me, too!" That single sentence from Barbara Corsello Lamendola is a perfect example of who she was. Born on November 26, 1942, Barbara lived a life devoted to God, her husband, children, grandchildren, family and friends. Growing up in New York, New York, Barbara was nothing short of a class act and carried herself as a true lady. With her Catholic faith as her guide, she became a woman who's wisdom was grounded in strength and who's strength was cemented in love. Upon meeting the love of her life, Michael Lamendola, she took a leap of faith and moved across the country and became a wife and stepmother. Over the years, Barbara and Michael would go on to welcome three children together and were married for forty-two years. While some would say the Lamendola family lived a life that others could only dream of, Barbara would tell you that the life you lead is the one you have the courage and the faith to build. Barbara was strong in her convictions and she raised children who were not only strong in theirs, but also devoted to her entirely. Barbara had the ability to draw others in as few can and she truly was the heart and center of her family. This devotion was the reason why Barbara fought the bravest battle of her life against cancer for the last few years. While she eventually grew tired and could fight no longer, she did not lose the battle: her faith grew stronger than ever, her family carried her when she could no longer walk, and her Lord took her home when she was ready. The impression she leaves on this earth is felt in the love her husband carries with him, the strength her children feel when they think of her, and the warmth that her grandchildren experience when she watches over them. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents as well as an infant daughter. She leaves behind her husband Michael, stepson Eric Lamendola, son Christopher Lamendola, daughter Noel DeVilbiss, granddaughter Michela Lamendola, and granddaughter Loren DeVilbiss. She is also survived by a brother, Nicasio Corsello, and a sister, Rosalie Prano, in addition to an extended family. A mass will be held in her memory at St. Thomas More on Thursday, December 18 at 11am.
