Mrs. Barbara Sue Pitz (née Yednock), passed away peacefully on August 27, 2025, in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the age of 83. Her passing marks the close of a life filled with faith, love, adventure, and devotion to family.
Born on August 15, 1942, in Streator, Illinois, Barbara was the cherished daughter of George and Edna Yednock. She grew up in Grand Ridge, Illinois, in a home that instilled in her the values of kindness, dedication, and family —qualities she carried throughout her life.
Barbara graduated from Ottawa High School in 1960, where she was both a cheerleader and played clarinet in the band. Her spirit and enthusiasm for life were evident even then. She continued her education at Northern Illinois University, where she again took up cheerleading and earned her degree. It was during these years that she met her future husband, Peter Pitz.
Barbara and Peter built a beautiful life together centered around a love for their church, family traditions, and creating many joyful memories through travel. Together they explored the world and made countless trips to Disney with their children and grandchildren—trips that became treasured family memories.
A devoted wife to Peter; loving mother to Michael Pitz, Rebecca Lucci (Michael Lucci II), and Susan Pitz (Robert Aguilar); and proud grandmother to Michael Lucci III (Mary Katherine Lucci), Nicholas Lucci (Madeline Lucci), Robert John “RJ” Aguilar, Nathan Aguilar, and Zachary Aguilar—Barbara’s heart belonged wholly to her family. She also leaves behind her beloved sister Mary Ann McFarland; brothers George Yednock and Ted Yednock; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.
Barbara’s professional life reflected her commitment to nurturing young minds. As a Montessori school teacher, she brought patience, creativity, and warmth to her classrooms. After retirement, she continued to give back by volunteering at her church and at her grandsons’ Montessori school during their early years.
In addition to her work in education, Barbara had an active lifestyle that included playing tennis during her younger years and later embracing pickleball. She was also the organizer behind many memorable family reunions and holiday celebrations—events marked by laughter and games with “spirited” competition.
Those who knew Barbara remember her as an extraordinary woman whose big heart touched everyone around her. Her fierce loyalty to those she loved was matched only by the joy she found in bringing people together. Whether through travel adventures or simple moments at home surrounded by family, Barbara lived each day with purpose and grace.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Edna Yednock.
Barbara Sue Pitz leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her. May her memory bring comfort to those who mourn her passing and joy to those who celebrate the remarkable life she lived.
