A beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, mentor and friend has left our side.
Born in Schenectady, New York, Blanche was the daughter of Cassius and Winifred Millington. She grew up with her sisters Kay and Lona, and her brothers, David, Edgar, Donald and Byron. She excelled at school and graduated high school two years early as Valedictorian. Blanche entered nursing school at Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Brooklyn New York for her RN degree, attended Columbia University for her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, and earned her Master of Education at UNLV.
Since 1970, Blanche has volunteered with many service organizations, including the Nevada Child Abuse Coalition, WE CAN (Working to Eliminate Child Abuse and Neglect) and worked with state legislators to develop legislation for the prevention of child abuse.
As a long time member of the Mesquite Club, Blanche served in many positions including president of the organization and stepping up to serve as the Chairperson of the Greater Federation of Women's Clubs. Among the other organizations that she served were: St. Viator School, Clark County Medical Society Auxiliary, Nevada Library Association and Friends of Southern Nevada Libraries. Blanche was responsible for the naming of the Bozarth Elementary School and continued to be involved with the schools activities, providing a standard of excellence in education.
Blanche has been acknowledged for her role in advancing these organizations and is listed in "Who are the Women in Nevada and Who's Who in the West. She also received awards from WE CAN including Volunteer of the Year and a Lifetime Achievement Award in 1994. She received the Commissioner's Award from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and the Volunteer of the Year Award from the Citizen Committee on Victims' Rights in 1989.
On top of those activities and her volunteer work, Blanche was very artistic and loved flower arranging, pressed flower arrangements and needlework. She entered her creations in many exhibitions and has numerous awards to show for her efforts.
Blanche is survived by her sister Kay Millington Champion, her two children, Kay Marsh Green and Gary Marsh, step children David Zucker, Ellen Zucker, Jeff Zucker, David Bozarth, Jim Bozarth, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 1 at 11 AM at Mountain View Presbyterian Church located at 8601 Del Webb Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89134. A private burial will follow.
