U.S. Army Sgt. Brett James Lawrence Jr., 23, passed away Saturday, May 15, 2010. He was born Aug. 11, 1986, in Las Vegas, and was a lifetime resident. A sergeant in the U.S. Army, Brett served two tours in Iraq, totaling 27 months, for which he was awarded a Purple Heart. Brett is survived by his mother, Dawn Covarrubias; father, Brett Lawrence Sr.; stepfather, Bobby Covarrubias; stepmother, Cheryl Lawrence; sisters, Brandy Lawrence, Brianna Covarrubias and Brooke Covarrubias; brother, Conner Lawrence; sister, Kelsey Lawrence; grandparents, Pat and MaryAnn Vastano and Don and Gay Hall; nephew, Cruz-James Davis; and aunts, Angela and Denise Vastano, all of Las Vegas. Visitation will be 1-7 p.m. Thursday, May 20. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 21, both at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Interment will follow at Palm Valley View Memorial Park.
