Carolyn was born on May 29, 1948, in Newark, New Jersey, to Gloria Kathryn Anderson. She spent her childhood and younger adult life in several New Jersey towns before moving to Nevada in 1994, where she lived for the rest of her life. Despite her years in Nevada, she always considered Hackettstown, New Jersey, her true home.
Carolyn’s whole life was marked by personal growth, a passion for learning, perseverance through challenges, and many remarkable achievements. She left high school early to care for her younger siblings but later earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting and management, graduating summa cum laude from Centenary College in Hackettstown. She continued her education, graduating magna cum laude from the University of Phoenix with an MBA in Organizational Management.
She excelled in every endeavor, including her civic service. Carolyn volunteered with organizations such as the New Jersey Jaycees, the American Heart Association, the Kiwanis Club, and the Lions Club. She also contributed to various political organizations and campaigns. Her many honors include Hackettstown NJ Woman of the Year (1975), Outstanding Young Women of America (1981), the Mickey Wilner Great Lady Award from Congregation Ner Tamid (2012), and Congregant of the Year at CNT in 2016.
Of all her accomplishments, Carolyn’s greatest joy was her daughter, Sarah Anne. She considered motherhood her highest calling and later cherished her role as grandmother to Jeremy. Family was very important to Carolyn, and she expressed her love in countless ways to both relatives and those she welcomed into her family. She was deeply loved and cherished by all.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, Dr. Louis Friedner; mother, Gloria Kathryn Anderson; and brother, Timothy Patrick Tierney.
She is survived by her daughter, Sarah (Bob) Filer; grandson, Jeremy Filer; sister, Kathryn (Kevin) Fedrizzi; many loved and blended extended family members on hers and Louis’s side of the family tree, many dear friends, and her sweet black cat, Ethel. All of whom will carry her memory forward with love and respect.
In lieu of flowers, Carolyn’s request was for donations to go to her Congregation Ner Tamid in Henderson, Nevada.
A private family funeral service will be held on January 22, 2026, at King David Memorial Chapel in Palm Memorial Park, Las Vegas, where she will be reunited and interred with her sweet husband for eternity. A local memorial and Meal of Condolence will be held on a date to be determined at Carolyn’s synagogue.
Rest in peace, dear one - until we meet again.
King David Memorial Chapel handled the arrangements.
