I worked with Dave in the mid 80s till early 90s in his band called Bandit! He was a great guitarist and awesome sound engineer and he taught me a lot about running sound engineering! He will always be a fond memory of mine during a time when you could make a living playing music and we had a lot of good times!

I don’t know if anyone’s gonna read this. It’s been years and I literally called David at least I thought I was calling David this week and I mentioned it to a girlfriend that I hadn’t talked to Dave in a few years or  his ex-wife Chrissy when they were in Portland, Oregon  I visited Dave many times in Las Vegas And I’m just so incredibly sad right now he was an incredible person and an amazing musician and he will be missed

I worked with Dave at The Venetian and remained friends. Dave was a great guy.

I worked with David in the 80s and early 90s and he was an incredible guitarist and sound engineer who blazed trails wherever he made his mark! We had so many great musical moments together and I will never forget how I admired his talent for music and the way he could make you sound so great regardless! I will miss him always!

So many.... I first met Dave when he did sound. I sang a song, he introduced himself afterward, and we built a great friendship with music being our passion. He told me I should learn Tina Marie's Lovergirl.  I practised for 2 weeks, I was inspired. That's the affect he had on others.   We became great friends after and he was unselfish in his wanting to introduce me to other professional musicians.  To get me Out there. I owe him alot! My favorite memory was when he surprised everyone at Gilleys one night with  singing a rap song. Oh my God. It was brilliant. Hysterically unexpected from this self-proclaimed shy guy! He brought the house down. Everyone was shocked.  I loved it!   The moment I met Dave, my musical life as I knew it changed. I will be forever grateful to him, and my heart is so sad from losing this cherished friend. 

I had the pleasure of working with Dave at Mandalay Bay.
Every time I saw him, he always had a smile on his face. One of the things that always made me laugh was when he wanted to say something about about work but didn’t want the “eye in the sky” to hear or see anything. So before he started speaking, he’d check for any hidden cameras or microphones wherever we were. 

Dave was extremely kind hearted and was always willing to answer anything related to audio engineering. His passion for music showed in his work. I’ve only known him for a couple years but during that time we always shared conversations with each other about our love for photography and our discontentment of our work environment. Even when work took advantage of his time and talent, he always showed up to work giving his all. 

It’s unfortunate to hear about his passing. His energy and presence will definitely be missed. 

It’s been nearly two weeks and I’ve still not come to accept that Dave is no longer in this world. You see, it was my turn ….

I met Dave at BWHS.  I remember always checking to see if his red Camaro was parked in front of Speedy Mart. Or the vision of him swooshing down the slope at Bridger Bowl in his white ski pants , or the sound of him playing “Blackbird” in South Hedges at MSU. 

Our lives drew us in different directions and we lost track of each other until Facebook!!?!   

Quickly he brought me back up to speed with tales of a bug banquet in Brazil while extolling the virtues of Aqua Net and big hair.  

Time had no impact on our friendship. 

At times we would chat weekly.  Dave helped me work through my first year of empty nesting when my daughter left home for college. He was my lifeline 🥰 

Our chats became monthly then quarterly…. Until now 😢  you see…it’s my turn. 

I can’t bring myself to say goodbye. You are always alive in my heart. 

I worked with Dave at The Venetian. Not only we were co workers but became good friends.  We kept in touch over the years. I was shocked when I heard the news as we recently been talking. He was an excellent sound engineer and gifted guitar player. He had a gentle personality. I will always remember and miss Dave.

I actually just found out Dave passed, and I am in total shock. I met Dave back in the 90’s when he and his wife (Krissy) were in a Portland, Oregon band called Bandit.  I became fast friends with the two of them. Dave was such a kind and oh so talented guy!  I remember being so upset when they decided to move to Las Vegas.  However, we kept in touch and I actually stayed with Dave & Krissy at their home with my new husband.   
Some years later, when the two had divorced, I was on vacation in Vegas with my husband and ran into Dave at a casino. What an awesome reunion we had!  He was still the same sweet, easy going and friendly guy as ever!!  Even though we may not have talked in years….he was an important person in my life when I needed a friend the most.  Thank you, Dave for your friendship. I will always cherish you and you will be missed!!  Love you, Lisa

I was blessed to have known you for almost 50 years. Your mom and dad and your sisters always treated me as family. My heart is with all of those who love you. I remember our first cars and then our first guitars. The countless hours we played in your parents basement because we wanted to be rock stars. But you my friend were a rock star! You were an amazingly talented man in everything you pursued. If it wasn't "Dave Mackin" good, it wasn't good enough. You were a very private person but that couldn't hide the heart and love you showed to those that knew you. I will miss you but I will hear you in every song I hear and sing. God Bless you Dave..

In the short time we knew Dave, we became fast friends. He was our neighbor and had that friendly smile you want to see each day. My favorite memory is when he would show us sightings from space which we all stood out on the street and found fascinating. You will be missed. 


There is not a single word to describe Dave Mackin. he was paranoid, cautious, INSANELY dramatic, and quite the conspiracy theorist. But he was one of the kindest, most caring, and most talented people i’ve ever met. I knew dave for over 10 years which is more than half of my life. He was an amazing stepdad, he knew that I already had a father so he never overstepped. But he still expressed his love towards me and always made sure that my mom and I were taken care of. Whether I forgot to set the alarm, forgot to turn off the lights, hogged all the extension cords, or set off the alarm while he was asleep scaring him half to death, he never yelled or got mad at me. He loved me as if I was his own. He even let me drive his Lamborghini?!?!? And if you know him you know how crazy of an offer that is. But anyways, I loved him so much and I wish I told him more often. He was there when my mom was really sick in the hospital and he was there when my childhood dog passed away. He was truly a great man and if you knew him you were blessed. My mom and I love you very much and thank you for everything, it’s my turn to take care of her now.

Where do I begin..... I have thousands. When my father died shortly after my mother . David stayed up for 3 nights editing snippets of our shows through out the years to a format I could play . 
Then sent them to me. He said when your heart feels broken and you don't think you can make it another day..... listen to this girl sing( which was our band way back when in Vegas) I do ! She always  makes me feel better.  So I did . For days, played the songs over and over remembering every night every memory. You saved Davie.   I so miss you
