Dominick Mastrodonato, 94, a 36-year resident of Las Vegas, passed away on March 5, 2015. He was born March 4, 1921 in Rochester, New York. In 1952, Dominick married Ruth Mazzo and they started their life-long journey of raising a family of four in the Rochester area. Ruth passed away suddenly, just one month shy of their 50th Anniversary in 2002. Dominick was raised in an unprivileged environment by a widowed father with five brothers and three sisters. After serving in the United States Navy during World War II, aboard the heavy cruiser, USS Chicago in the Pacific Theater, Dominick returned to Rochester, married Ruth, and began a career in the clothing industry. He retired in 1980 and the family began a new adventure of leaving the cold and snow of western New York for the sunshine of Las Vegas. After a 12-year career in the hotel/casino industry he retired permanently in 1992. Dominick loved to travel, had a passion for golf, followed baseball, and was a long-time fan of UNLV basketball. Although now separated by miles, when possible, he enjoyed spending time with his four grandchildren and most recently, three great-grandchildren. He is survived by daughter and devoted caregiver, Mary Rose (Owen) Dumas of Las Vegas; son, Michael (Pam) of Penn Valley, California; daughters, Laura of Henderson, Nevada and daughter Linda (Donald) Hess, of Portland Oregon; granddaughters, Lindsay, Leann, Shawna, and Kayla, as well as great-grandson, Nehemiah; great-granddaughter, Addison; great-grandson, Gage; sister, Margaret of Rochester, New York; and several nieces and nephews throughout the country. A visitation will be held from 3:00-7:00pm on Wednesday, March 11; a funeral service will be at 2:00pm on Thursday, March 12 followed by a burial. All services will be held at Palm Eastern Mortuary and Cemetery, 7600 S. Eastern Avenue, Las Vegas, Nevada 89123.
