Edward John Drost

Edward John Drost, 82, of Henderson, Nevada, passed away Monday, July 14, 2025 at his home in Henderson, Nevada. Ed was born on the northwest side of Chicago, Illinois on July 24, 1942 to Edward Simon Drost and Laura Sally Drost (nee Rudny). He is survived by his wife, Cristina Drost (nee Llorente); son, Edward R. “Ted” Drost (Cara); son, Jeffrey J. Drost; daughter, Cristina M. Fentross (Dirk); granddaughters, Dr. Chloe I. Drost and Olivia Drost Yarici (Barkin); his sister, Bernadette Michna; his sister-in-law, Lina Angeles; his brothers-in-law, Jose Luis Llorente, Paul O’Malley, Rolando Llorente, and Jose Cobarrubias; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews in the United States and the Philippines.

Edward graduated from St. John Bosco Elementary School (Chicago, IL), St. Patrick High School (Chicago, IL) and the University of Notre Dame (Notre Dame, IN) in 1964 with a degree in economics. While taking graduate level courses, he met and married his wife Cristina in 1966. They soon moved back to the Chicagoland area, specifically the northern Chicago suburb of Skokie, IL, where they raised their children along side of a large and boisterous extended family. Ed was the Community Development Director for the City of Evanston, Illinois and an adjunct professor in City Planning at Loyola University of Chicago, Illinois.

In 1997, as empty nesters, they relocated to the warmer climate of the Las Vegas Valley and finally settled in Sun City Anthem in Henderson. Both Ed and Cristina became very active in the formation of St. Francis of Assisi Parish where Ed served as a member on the first Building Committee for the development of the Community Center building which also serves as the church. He refurbished the main altar and various other liturgical pieces of furniture and statues. Ed also served as a lector for Sunday Masses and funerals beginning at the formation of the parish. In more recent times, “stood in” for good ‘ol St. Nick at the Parish’s annual Christmas pageant.

A Funeral Mass for Edward will be held Saturday, July 26, 2025 at 11:00 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, 2300 Sunridge Heights Pkwy, Henderson, NV 89052.
