Elliott Simpson, BMCS, United States Navy, Retired, passed away peacefully at home in Henderson, Nevada, on March 21, 2025, after a long illness. He was 80 years old. Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Elliott A. Simpson Sr. and Elvira Washington Simpson on December 15, 1944.
Elliott grew up with strong values of family, service, and integrity. A proud graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, Class of 1963, Elliott maintained close ties with his classmates and regularly attended reunions with his loving wife, Linda. Elliott enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War in the late 1960’s and served honorably for 23 years, rising to the rank of BMCS (Boatswain’s Mate Chief Senior). His career spanned both the Vietnam and Gulf Wars. It was during the Gulf War that he met Linda, his future wife, while both were serving their country. After retiring from the Navy in January 1990, Elliott obtained his commercial driver’s license and began a second career as a long-haul driver for CR England, exploring the highways of America. Later, he worked as a tractor-trailer operator for the United States Postal Service until his retirement in 2020, adding another 25 years of service to his legacy.
Fondly known as “Mr. GQ,” Elliott never left the house unless he was “casket clean” — sharp as a tack and dressed to kill from head to toe. Whether in uniform or casual wear, he always looked like he stepped right off the cover of GQ magazine. From his Navy dress blues to his USPS uniform, Elliott’s style and cleanliness were legendary — to the point of good-natured teasing by his colleagues. Elliott had a vibrant personality, a great sense of humor, and a love for life. He was a prankster and a jokester, always ready to make someone laugh. He loved music especially Southern soul, old school R&B, and soul classics and he loved to dance and have a good time. One of his favorite sayings was, “I can show you better than I can tell you.” If someone said they were going to do something, Elliott would flash that signature grin and say, “Show me, don’t tell me.” That was his way — action, not just words. He loved animals deeply. His dogs weren’t just pets, they were his babies. His fur family included a Maltese named Senior Chief, a rescue pug named Miss Popeye, and his most beloved companion, a Bichon Frise named Lady, who lived for 20 cherished years.
As a youth, Elliott was a member of the Negro Rodeo League in Oklahoma, where he took part in bareback riding and calf roping. His love of cowboy culture stayed with him throughout his life. He was an avid fan of Westerns and never passed up a good cowboy movie. Elliott was a fixture at local car shows for years proudly displaying his beautiful Corvettes. He and his wife, Linda were frequently rewarded with many awards and trophies.
He was a devoted and cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Linda Simpson; together for 36 years; his daughter, Felicia Fuller (husband Willie); his son, Jelani Simpson (wife Syndal); nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters: Rosemarie Turner of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Linda Thomas of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Paulette Simpson of North Las Vegas, Nevada and Anita McMahon (husband Lloid); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and colleagues who will sorely miss him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elliott A. Simpson Sr. and Elvira Washington Simpson; his beloved son, Devin Simpson; his stepson, Reginald “Reggie” White; his brothers, Walter “T.C.” Simpson and Paul Simpson.
