Essie Tinnion Olige

Essie Tinnion Olige went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, October 26, 2022. Essie was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and Christian. The light of Jesus shone through the life she lived, and she was a living testimony to God’s love and grace.

Essie Olige was born on January 22, 1936 in Caviness, Texas to Nick and Elberta Tinnion. Essie had a wonderful childhood, raised alongside her seven siblings: Johnny Lee, Isadora, Lillian, Elnora, Bobby L, Myrtle, and Elberta. She is survived by Bobby L, Elnora, and Elberta.

She was married to the late Freddie Olige Sr. for more than thirty years. Essie loved being a mother to her 5 children: John Bryant, Joyce Bryant Olige, Andrea Olige, Paula Rogers, and Freddie (Pete) Olige, Jr. Her love for children grew as she added to their family with two adopted sons: Marcus Olige and Vincent Olige. Essie is survived by Paula Rogers, Freddie (Pete) Olige, Jr., and Marcus Olige along with 13 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

She had a successful career in nursing and worked in many hospitals, helping patients. Essie traveled the world and lived in places such as Germany, Greece, and England before settling in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was heavily involved in her local community, working in the local school district as an early elementary volunteer. Essie had a loving heart and grew to serve the Lord through fostering twenty-seven children in her home, especially those with disadvantages and disabilities.

Her family shares that she never met a stranger. Even in her last days, she was ministering to and praying for all those around her. She made sure that everyone she encountered knew about the love of Christ. This is how Essie lived her life, as a blessing to all. She was a light to those who knew her.

Proverbs 31:29-30 says, “Many daughters have done virtuously, But thou excellest them all. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: But a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.”

A visitation for Essie will be held Monday, November 14, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Palm Eastern Mortuary, 7600 S Eastern Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89123. A funeral service will occur Monday, November 14, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, 7600 S Eastern Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89123. A committal service will occur Monday, November 14, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Palm Eastern Cemetery, 7600 S Eastern Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89123. A reception will occur Monday, November 14, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, 7600 S Eastern Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89123.
