Ester Requilman Magueflor, 91, a resident of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away and joined her Creator, her beloved husband Frank, and her two sons Noel and Ramon on January 8, 2017 at the Grace Group Home in the city that never sleeps, Las Vegas. She was affectionately called "Lola" by everyone's grandkids and great-grandkids, and "Mommy" by everyone else.
Ester was born on December 22, 1925 in Manila, Philippines, to Cosme Requilman and Soccoro Ago. Growing up during the tumultuous time of World War II, her family survived the Japanese occupation of the Philippines and had many stories to tell about the war.
Ester met and married the love of her life, Francisco M. Magueflor, (affectionately called Frank) of Jolo, Sulu, in Manila at the age of 23. Their romance began when Ester worked as a telephone operator at the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company and future husband Frank worked as a lineman for the same company. After they married, Ester quit her job to be a full-time wife and mother to their seven children. In 1973, the family moved to the USA where she worked full-time as an assembler at International Rectifier, maker of semiconductors in El Segundo, California. After retiring in the early 90s, Ester and Frank moved to Las Vegas, Nevada.
Ester loved the Lord and always started her day reading the Bible and prayer books. She had many hobbies to keep herself busy and occupied including reading romance novels, watching Western movies, gardening and tending to her prized roses, interior decorating, sewing and quilting, and playing mahjong and scrabble.
Ester is survived by her five children Susan, Mariette, Patricia, Melissa, and Sam along with their respective spouses; twelve grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, the pride and joy of her life, gave her enormous love and happiness in the later years of her life. Her grandson Philip said, "To me, Lola is, to quote Shakespeare's Macbeth "the milk of human kindness", and was the main foundation of the Magueflor family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to their own churches.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, January 20, 2017 at Palm Mortuary.
