Evangelina Gonzales Crum, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2025, at the age of 80. She was born on June 30, 1945, in Morenci, Arizona, to the late Elvira and Robert Gonzales.
Evangelina’s life was rooted in family, faith, and hard work. She moved with her family to Las Vegas in 1953, where she grew up and built her life. She graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Helena, Montana, and attended Rancho High School. The friendships she formed and her commitment to her community lasted a lifetime.
She dedicated more than 30 years of service to Central Telephone Company, which later became Sprint. She began as a telephone operator and rose to Line Assignment Engineer. Her strong work ethic and perseverance were an inspiration to her colleagues, and she took pride in her career accomplishments.
A devout Catholic, Evangelina lived her faith daily through service. She taught catechism and was a parish member at several Las Vegas parishes over the years, including Our Lady of Las Vegas Catholic Church, St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Christ the King Catholic Community, and finally Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Her devotion, kindness, and willingness to share her faith touched many lives.
Above all, Evangelina cherished her family. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Dowd; former husband, Robert Crum; her sisters May Coleman and Via Gonzales; and brother Raymond Gonzales. She was preceded by her brother, Robert, who died eight years earlier on the same date. Evangelina is also survived by her three children, David Mounts Gonzales, Susan Angel Caliger (deceased), and Michael Troy Crum; thirteen grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren, all of whom were the joy of her life.
Evangelina will be remembered for her loving heart, quick humor, unwavering faith, and dedication to family. Her legacy of compassion, strength, and devotion lives on in all who knew and loved her.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 10 AM PT at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Las Vegas. The service will be live-streamed. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations in memory of her faithful Christian service to Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada. https://www.catholiccharities.com/
