Grant was born December 29, 1931 in Manhattan, NY (Chinatown) to Peter and Sue (Pang) Lau. He was the middle child of three children; Macy Lau Tong, who passed away in 1966, and Richard Lau, who passed away in 2014. Grant served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953. He married Mary Teresa Kalena Lee in 1957 (They were divorced in 1990 and Mary passed away in 2003). Their only child, Robert Keith Lau, was born October 20, 1958. Grant graduated from American University in Washington D.C. and worked for the U.S. Government for 30 plus years as an accountant for the IRS. Grant became a grandfather on July 2, 2008 to Leah Kalena Joy Lau. He was so proud of Leah. They were incredibly close. Grant moved to Las Vegas from CA in 2010 to live next door to his son and his family. Grant's only child Bob passed away very unexpectedly on June 7, 2014, leaving behind his daughter who was not yet 6 years old. Grant moved into the Nevada State Veterans Home in early 2015, where he spent his last years. He enjoyed the love and respect shown to him by the staff at the Veterans Home. Two of his favorite things to do were bowling and travel. Grant is survived by his beloved granddaughter, Leah; daughter-in-law, Poppy; three nieces, Lianne Tong Kowiak, Marjorie Lau, and Donna Sue Lau Smith; nephew, Doug Tong; and their respective families. Services will be held on at 10:40AM on November 29, 2022 at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, NV. King David Memorial Chapel handled the arrangements.
