Harry Kogan, 103, of Las Vegas, NV, died on Thursday, October 31, 2019. Harry was born in Philadelphia, PA on March 11, 1916 to Samuel and Fanny Kogan who were Russian immigrants from Odessa to the United States. They raised Harry and his two brothers with tremendous dignity and the highest of ethical values in spite of tremendous hardships in the pre and post Great Depression Era. Harry graduated from Central High School in Philadelphia but did not go to college in order to work and help support his parents. Harry and his brothers established KB Company, standing for Kogan Brothers, which eventually became a highly successful commercial refrigeration business serving the food and restaurant industry in Philadelphia. Harry always cared for his parent’s well-being, buying them a home, winter vacations in Florida, and weekly dinner visits. Harry also cared for his community. He had a particular interest in children and education. He was a lifelong contributor to Jewish causes in Philadelphia including the Jewish Federation, Akiba/Barrack Academy, Golden Slipper, and Boy’s Town Jerusalem. Harry was a cherished volunteer for many years at the Endowment Fund of the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia. Harry “reinvented” himself at the age of 90 and relocated to Las Vegas where he once again became involved in the Jewish community contributing to the Jewish Federation, Jewish Family Service Agency, and the Anti-Defamation League (ADL). Harry was truly a “renaissance man” who traveled extensively all over the world; read several newspapers each day; kept abreast of national and world affairs; and who had a keen appreciation for the symphony, opera and ballet which regularly frequented at the Smith Center for the Performing Arts. Harry was quick with a quip, joke or comment; but always with love, care and concern. May Harry’s life, deeds and memory be an eternal source of Brachot and Mitzvot for his friends and for the countless others whose lives have been enriched due to his commitment and philanthropic generosity. Graveside services will be held at 10:00AM on Monday, November 4, 2019 at Montefiore Cemetery, Jenkintown, PA. Arrangement were handled jointly by King David Memorial Chapel of Las Vegas, NV and Joseph Levine and Sons Memorial Chapel of Trevose, PA.
