Jack Howard Jefferson, 96, of Las Vegas, passed away March 4, 2012. He was born March 15, 1915, in Falls County, Texas, and resided in Las Vegas since 1985. He held faculty positions at Langston University and Texas Southern University. He retired after a distinguished 30-year career of teaching, research, and service at Southern University, Baton Rouge, La., and a decade of tutoring chemistry and mathematics at UNLV in Las Vegas. He was a life member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from their Las Vegas Chapter. He is survived by his wife, Josephine; daughters, Jacqueline Newton and Elwyn McGaugh (Eugene) of Las Vegas, and Deborah Woods (Lee) of Whittier, Calif.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, March 16, with services following, both at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Burial following at Palm Valley View Memorial Park.
