Everyone has that one family member who is always up for an adventure. No matter the day, the weather or length of travel, they’re ready to go. It is with great sadness that we let you know that our much loved adventurer, Janet S. (Bernard) Ray, took her final journey on October 28, 2020.
Born in Melrose, MA in 1943, a graduate of Melrose High School class of 1961. Janet’s early escapades took her to Alaska where she graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Alaska. As one of the first female oil field auditors, Janet was very proud of her cutting-edge work on the North Slope. For our part, we loved to let friends know that we had family in Alaska! Janet was an early pioneer in investing, owning a variety of commercial properties in Anchorage, leading her to co-own the Call of the Wild Bar on Big Lake, Alaska. Always having a beloved dog or two by her side, retiring but still on the move, Janny’s expeditions changed to sunnier states like Venice, Florida and Las Vegas, Nevada where she met many new friends and hosted family as traveling was always encouraged. As Covid continues to impact plans and adventures with travel restrictions, Janet’s burial will be privately held at a later date. We will celebrate her life taking her home to Alaska. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the animal rescue of your choosing.
Janet is survived by her favorite brother, Fred W. (“Buddy”) Bernard, Jr., and his wife Linda of The Villages, Florida, her nieces Joanne, Julie, Tracey, Ginger, Sandy, Danielle and Kristy and nephews Billy and Sean who will carry on her journey. Janet was predeceased by her Parents, Elizabeth and Frederick W. Bernard; her sisters Elizabeth (“Betty”) Carey of North Reading, MA; Ann (“Nancy”) Mahoney of Melrose; and her younger brother, Andrew (“Andy”) Bernard of Lynn and Nephew Mike.
