Jewell Christine Lester

On Wednesday, August 14, 2024, Jewell C. Cunningham Lester went to be with the Lord and her loved ones. Jewell was the youngest of seven children, born in Cadiz, KY. Her parents were Vodie Boren Cunningham and James Carlisle Cunningham of Trigg County, KY. She was preceded in death by her parents and all siblings. On April 19, 1946, she married the love of her life, J.D. Lester and her life adventure began. Before J.D.'s passing in July of 2001, they were married for 55 years. Prior to settling in the Las Vegas area over 60 years ago, they lived in Kentucky, Illinois and Arizona. Jewell and J.D. had 11 children, with five children preceding her in death: Anna Belle (infant), Jerry Dean (Kathleen), Loyd Byron Sr., James Carlisle, and Larry Lew. She is survived by Bayard Bond (Adeline), David Alan, John Harriss, Suann, Linda Leigh, and Christene. Jewell was a mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She was also survived by her loving grandchildren: Jenifer Dee, Donna Lee, Patricia Ann, Loyd Byron Jr. (Portia), Michael Paul, David Anthony, Candice Starr, Danielle, James, Destiny (Chris), Jeramie (Amie), and Gian Michael (Brianna). She has many great grandchildren and a great-great granddaughter. Following the graduation of her youngest child, Jewell worked outside the home enjoying jobs at Circus Circus, Slots-A-Fun and Excalibur. She retired in 1999. Outgoing and fun loving, she was a people person and never met a person she couldn't get along with. Jewell was a good Christian woman and was loving and nurturing to everyone she met and had an ability to draw people and animals to her. She was proud of her Scottish heritage, several of which founded many areas in her birth state of Kentucky. Jewell lived an amazing life and was loved by all who knew her. Jewell's family and friends take comfort in knowing she is now in eternal peace with Jesus. "He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." Revelation 21:4.
