2023, at ProCare Hospice in Las Vegas, NV. He came into the world on March 28, 1945, in
Bronx, NY, where, as he would always say, there was the best of everything in the world. At the
young age of 13, he defied death from heart complications thanks to an open-heart surgery,
performed by the good Doctor Elliott S. Hurwitt, Chief of Surgery at Montefiore – a hospital to
which Joe had sent regular donations out of gratitude, until the very end.
After graduating from Dewitt Clinton High School in 1962, Joe made his journey to Las
Vegas, NV, where he wished to pursue a life of professional gambling. Instead, he went on to
become a great dealer throughout the city, and even dabbled in the art of acting, landing a few
minor roles throughout his short acting career. In his life, he had developed a passion for politics,
stocks, and investments, indulging in his favorite food, road-tripping all over the country,
making friends wherever he went, and rooting for his favorite sports teams – especially the
Runnin’ Rebels of UNLV.
For all his interests, however, nothing was more important to him than his family.
Preceded in death by his brother, Thomas, and his sisters, Helene and Johanna, Joe poured his
heart into his surviving relationships: son Eric, baby sister Barbara-Ann, nephews Jamie,
Thomas, and Christopher, nieces Danae, Heather, Kristina, and Kristyn, and lifelong best friend,
Judie, among many others who had been touched by his loving personality. No matter the
circumstance, he always made the effort to reach out, keep in touch, and love and support his
family in whatever way he could. A beloved brother, a wonderful friend, and a cherished,
irreplaceable uncle, he will be fondly remembered and deeply missed.
All who wish to pay their respects at Joe’s funeral are welcome to attend at PALM
EASTERN MORTUARY & CEMETERY, 7600 S Eastern Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89123, at 1 p.m.
on Tuesday, March 14, 2023. Any who wish to honor Joe with a charity may send their donation
to MONTEFIORE HOSPITAL AND MEDICAL CENTER, 3325 Bainbridge Ave, Bronx, NY
10467.
