John A. McGuckin Jr., 74, of Henderson, and formerly of New Carrollton and Mitchellville, Md., passed away peacefully Sept. 22, 2011, surrounded by his family. He was a member of Plumbers Local Union Local No. 5 for 54 years. He proudly coached various sports for the New Carrollton Boys & Girls Club. After a career in the Washington, D.C. area for 35 years, he enjoyed living in Henderson for 12 years of his retirement as his "Place in the Sun." Johnny is survived by his cherished wife, Milly; loving son, Kelly (Heidi); daughter, Tammy; sister, Virginia Lehr (Dick); granddaughters, Tawni Case (Matt) and Tamara McGuckin; grandson, Kaigh McGuckin; sisters-in-law, Eileen Hulme (Wayne) and Lillian Hasko; cousin, Mary Fenn; and several nieces and a nephew. The family will receive guests to help celebrate his joyful life 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at P.O.
