He was born August 2, 1925 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Doretha Murray. He married the love of his life, Jewel Murphy, on October 12, 1972.
"Murphy" enlisted in the Marines in October of 1943. He was a Montford Point Marine and trained outside of Camp Lejune until he was sent to the South Pacific. He was a proud veteran of World War II and the Korean War. His service to his country covered 20 active years and 10 years reserve. He then returned home and joined the McDonalds Corporation and worked his way up to East Coast Operations Manager. After leaving the East Coast for California, he settled in San Jose and became a small business owner and opened a family donut shop. The next chapter of his life took him to sales. He went to work for Saroni's and sold baking supplies to bakeries and restaurants from Monterrey to Mountain View for over 10 years. His retirement in 1992 brought him to Vegas when he lived happily for 16 years with his sweetheart, Jewel. With her passing in 2008, he moved back to San Jose to be with his daughter Kimberly and granddaughter Maya Rose.
Murphy enjoyed cooking and gardening as well as spending quality time with family and friends and listening to Frank Sinatra.
He was an American hero, a loving husband and doting father. He is survived by his son Chuck Stutz; daughter Kimberly Murphy; and granddaughter Maya Rose Murphy Cook.
