

Joe had a passion for fishing and camping as a child and into his adult life. He spent many weekends with family and friends camping and fishing at nearby lakes.
Joe graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1951. After graduation, Joe joined the Navy as an Electricians Mate from Sep 51 to Sep 55. A total of 4 years honorably serving his country.
After leaving the military in 1955, Joe landed his first job as an electrical repairman for Breese Burners. Over the next 10 years Joe worked with Eberline Instrument Corporation at the Los Alamos Lab, and Foremost Dairy as a milk route supervisor. Joe also had his own pest control business for many years.
Joe married Theresa Ortiz in 1957. While their marriage wouldn’t last forever as they’d hoped, Joe and Theresa remained in contact through their children until the day he departed. As a team, they raised their three children, Danny, Cathy and Valerie.
Joe moved from Santa Fe, New Mexico to Henderson, Nevada in 1993. Two years later, he married Peggy in 1995. That same year he went to work for the Laundry Supply Company as their warehouse manager. Joe retired in 2003.
Anyone who knew Joe, knew that he was the most loving father and spouse a family could ask for. Joe is preceded in death by his son Danny, one brother, 3 sisters and his parents.
Joe is survived by his wife Peggy Ortiz of Henderson, Nevada. His loving children, Cathy Grunow, of Leander Texas, Valerie Jensen, of Henderson, Nevada, Son-In-Law Randy Grunow, of Leander, Texas, Grandson Daniel Grunow, of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Eric Nephew (Peggy’s Son) of Henderson, Nevada.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Kidney Foundation, a charity that was close to Joe’s heart.
The family requests that notes are sent to 5 Barton Spring Circle, Henderson NV 89074. There will be celebration of life at a later date. Joe’s final resting place will be at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
