Joseph Edward Di Giacomo, Sr., age 85, of Henderson, NV passed away peacefully, at home surrounded by family on Sunday, July 13, 2025. Joe was born in Providence, RI on April 29th, 1940, growing up in the Federal Hill area. He is the son of the late Joseph P. Di Giacomo and the late Rose (Garofalo) Di Giacomo. Joe graduated from Mount Pleasant High School and attended Rhode Island School of Design for Architectural Drafting.
In August of 1960, Joe met Emily Werner through mutual friends while at Olivo’s beach. Emily was in nursing school at the time while Joe worked for Castellucci, Galli and Planka Associates as a transit/rod/draftsman. They were married in April 1964 and welcomed two children, Anne-Marie in 1965 and Joseph, Jr. in 1967.
On May 13, 1968, Joe was ordered into active duty during the Vietnam War as a Staff Sargeant with the Rhode Island National Guard 107th Signal Company where he served until October 18,1969. Joe was presented with The Army Commendation Medal on February 21, 1969, as well as a Citation from the State of RI House of Representatives on May 13, 2013, for his faithful and courageous service during the Vietnam War.
Joe and his family moved to Cranston in 1970 where they resided until relocating to Henderson, NV in 1990. Joe was a land surveyor for over 30 years until changing professions to poker dealer in Las Vegas. He retired from his position of poker room manager at South Point Casino in 2017.
In his leisure time, Joe traveled throughout the US and Europe often by cruise ship with Emily or following the travel baseball team with Joe, Jr. to cheer on Joe, III. He was a devoted Papa and cherished spending time with his grandchildren. He was an all-around sports fan, gun enthusiast and enjoyed watching western and war movies.
Joe is survived by his wife Emily, daughter Anne-Marie, grandchildren Joseph III, Chloe and Robert, his sister Diana Vescera and brother-in-law Michael Vescera of Johnston RI, sister-in-law Angela Di Giacomo of Cranston RI as well as his nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. Joe will be joining his kid brother Bobby, his son Joe Jr. and granddaughter Gabrielle to watch over us. He will be greatly missed but forever in our hearts.
