Katherine Zaninovich Cook passed peacefully from this life Sept. 17, 2013, to join her husband, Col. James R. Cook, in eternal repose. Born Dec. 28, 1931, to Katie and John, in Orange Cove, Calif., and raised by her father and second mother, Mira, she lived her life full of purpose. Fondly known as "Katine," she was an upbeat lady of life, enjoying constant activity and vibrant health, always pursuing sports as an athlete or fan, and attending concerts, cultural festivals, and stage shows. Her dedication to the U.S. Air Force was as enduring as the lifelong friendships she and Jim had acquired during their many years of service. Katherine was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; by her sisters, Mary and Nada; and by her siblings-by-marriage, Janice and Don. She is survived by daughters, Joni Therrien, Jami Kenison and Kathy Cook-Obregon, and their families, Sam, Dan, Stacey and Parker Therrien, Bruce, Claire and Connor Kenison, and Lalo Obregon. She is also survived by her beloved brother and sister, John Zaninovich and Margaret Weersing; also by cherished brothers-by-marriage, Tom Cerney and Marvin Stucky. Raised with a wonderful legacy to love your fellow humans, to appreciate your family, and to value the attributes of trust and honesty, Katherine learned to be as her father taught, and raised her own family with these important values. Information regarding her memorial and interment may be requested by contacting [email protected] In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made in support of the Katherine Cook Sponsorship Fund, payable to "Saratoga Rowing Association" 543 Union Ave., Saratoga Springs, N.Y. 12866 for the dedication of a rowing shell named "Katine."
