It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Luther (Lou) H. Cassell, who passed at 83 years old on February 7th, 2025, surrounded by family and friends in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Ssgt. Luther H. Cassell, U.S. Air Force, Ret. was born on August 22nd, 1941, in Carlise, Pennsylvania.
Through his life, he wore many titles and was a dedicated man to each one. He served in two areas of the Air Force: the supply branch responsible for food procurement for the commissaries and remote bases worldwide, with one at Wheelus Air Base in Tripoli, Libya. Lou ensured the needs of dependent families while accompanying spouses on military bases worldwide.
Unaccompanied assignments to Southeast Asia were a strain that many families faced, but were endured as a necessity of military careers. Lou had a “gift of gab” that made dealing with him a memorable event, making work occasions flow easily. Military professionalism was a dependable trait in Lou and made him a valuable asset to any shop he would be assigned.
As military procedures changed, many management of food entities were assigned to civilian managers. Lou found himself cross-trained in Armament Systems aircraft maintenance and weapon loading, starting a whole new career which he served until retirement of twenty years of Honorable Service.
After retirement, he tried other jobs, and eventually settled in his original career of food procurement at the Nellis Air Force Base Exchange food court where he served many years until making retirement permanent.
His wife and life-long partner, Sheila, gave up her citizenship in the United Kingdom to become a military wife while supporting his career and many assignments, serving as homemaker for their family.
Lou is survived by his four children: Shane M. Cassell, Shari L Cassell Seech, Robin D. Cassell, Scott W. Cassell. He has five grandchildren: Kourtni N. Seech Mehrabi, Cory Seech, Tiffany Cassell Gerke, Nolan Cassell, and Justin Cassell, and six great-grandchildren. Benjamin Cassell of Newville, Pennsylvania is his only surviving brother.
Now, Lou is with his lovely wife, Sheila M. Cassell, and parents, Martin Cassell and Edith Bishop Cassell; sisters, Josephine Thumma and Evelyn Fraiser; brothers, Chester Harold and Robert Cassell.
In honor of the passing of Lou Cassell, we wish his family a quick and painless recovery, ensuring a smooth future as they move onto the next chapter of their lives.
Celebration of Life for Lou Cassell will be held at Palm Southwest Mortuary, 7979 W. Warm Springs Rd., Las Vegas, NV 89113 on Friday, March 14, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM.
