Marcelino Giron was born in Cali, Colombia on February 23, 1946 to parents, Luis Alfonso Giron and Bertha Antonia Garcia. He was the oldest of 4 siblings, Harold Giron, Gloria Milena Giron, Alexandra Giron. His birth name was Marceliano, and was later changed when he moved to the United States at the age of 17. He lived in New York City and a short time later joined the United States Army to serve our country during the Vietnam era.
Marcelino had a huge passion for music and art. He studied and learned to play the trumpet as well as read and write music. His favorite music was Jazz and Latin Salsa which lead him to play in Latin Salsa and Jazz bands in New York City. He taught himself to draw and paint and had made several of his own personal art pieces.
Marcelino was a professional driver for most of his life and also ran his own small business as a driving instructor educating his clients on the skills and safety instructions they needed to be competent and safe drivers.
Marcelino had a beautiful faith and love for God. For over a decade he also organized, taught and participated with prayer groups and youth Catholic education services with Fr Clarence in the Las Vegas Community. He also hosted a weekly prayer group in his own home for 10 years praying and celebrating the love of God.
In Marcelino’s later years of life, he was diagnosed with a rare aggressive form of Cancer and given a short time to live. He courageously and relentlessly fought his disease while never once stopping the fight regardless of the difficulties and/or effects of the treatments.
He kept his positive and charismatic attitude in between all the different hospitals, doctors, and nurses that helped along the way with treatment and therapies. He had a way of making funny jokes and making the hospital professionals laugh even while they were giving him tough news throughout the disease progression.
