

Mavis Huntington MacDowell returned to her Heavenly Father March 17, 2022.
She was born at 415 Queen, North Minneapolis on June 6, 1941, to Alice and James Huntington.
She graduated from North High School in 1959. She married in 1960 and moved to Sebeka, MN. She divorced in 1976 and left Sebeka in June 1978. She attended and graduated from Bemidji State College in 1978 with a teaching degree. She eventually obtained additional education and degrees from the University of Nevada Las Vegas, California State San Bernadino and a master’s degree from Azusa Pacific in Special Education, Learning Disabilities, and emotional disturbance counseling. She graduated with Honors.
She left Minnesota for Las Vegas in June 1978. She immediately began teaching special education at Cashman Jr High School. She got an additional Job at Nellis AFB to make ends meet and met her husband, Paul. They were married in November 1981. She continued teaching as they moved around the US and to Europe. They returned to California in 1984.
Mavis MacDowell was a special education teacher, a Young Astronaut leader, Civil Air Patrol moral leadership officer, Blue Star Mother extraordinaire. She was a patriot and supported our troops through Operation Paperback, packages, and neck helmets. Soldiers and animals were very dear to her, and she spent a good part of her life helping them. Mrs. MacDowell wrote several short stories and published one book.
Mavis was a lifelong Christian and a faithful sister in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Most important in her life were her three sons, John Hansen, Jason MacDowell, and Dr. James MacDowell, along with her husband Paul and grandchildren Makayla, Benjamin, and Jacob.
Services will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2022, at 12 PM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 10970 Bermuda Rd, Henderson, NV. Visitation will be from 10 AM until 12 PM.
Interment will be at the Veterans Cemetery in Boulder City, NV.
In lieu of Flowers, the family asks for donations to the Church Of Christ of Latter Day Saints or to St Rose Domenica Hospital.
