Born May 4, 1939 in Spanish Fork, UT, Melba was the youngest of two children born to Sarah and Lorin Simmons. Melba is preceded in death by her parents, her husband George, her sister MaryJo, and her great-grandson Uriah..
Melba grew up in Las Vegas and graduated from Las Vegas High School in 1957. She met George D. Cichoski while he was serving at Nellis Airforce Base. They were married on June 23, 1961 and later sealed in the St. George temple. Melba and George had five children, four sons and a daughter. In the 1970s, Melba's love for reading led her to establish and operate three church book stores -- Latter-Day Book and Supply.
Melba was a faithful, life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Melba's great grandmother immigrated from Iceland to Utah and helped build the railroad. This made her a member of The International Society of Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She was proud of her heritage and enjoyed researching her genealogy throughout her life. She served faithfully in various church assignments including Young Women’s President and Relief Society President. She also worked at the Las Vegas temple and she and George served a full-time mission. She had a great love for travel and did so extensively with her family. Melba established many friendships and was a part of several social groups for over 60 yrs.
Melba is survived by her five children: Mark Cichoski, Brent Cichoski, David Cichoski, Glen Cichoski, Kristin Cichoski, 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Melba was a joy and will be remembered for the compassion, laughter, friendship and love that she shared with so many whose lives she touched.
