05/01/1960 - 08/06/2023
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, relative, and dear friend, Said, passed away
peacefully on Sunday, August 6, 2023. He was born May 1, 1960 to Said Ajoub and
Badea Alajame. He grew up in Homs, Syria, and was the youngest of six boys and one
girl. The Ajoubs have always had a passion for sports, each pursuing their chosen
activity. Said began boxing when he was quite young, and at the age of fourteen he
received the Golden Athlete position of the National Syrian Team. He was a five-time
Olympian Boxer.
After the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, Said traveled to Las Vegas and became a
professional boxer. He married Shelly Schecklman in 1985, and they were blessed
with two beautiful boys, Muhammad Adam and Ahmad Jacob. In 2015, they were
blessed with granddaughter Berlin, the sparkle of Said’s eye. He was the proudest
Jiddo (grandfather).
Said is survived by his wife of thirty-nine years, Shelly; sons Adam and Jacob, and
Tem Joubert (a neighborhood friend who spent time with Adam and Jacob since
elementary school, who was adopted in their hearts); granddaughter Berlin and her
mommy Jazmin; five brothers, Ali, Omar, Marouf, Salim and Hashem. He is also
survived by numerous loving relatives, brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces,
nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as very many cherished friends.
Said will be missed, but never forgotten. He was an exceptional soul who loved and
cherished family and friends. He will live in our memories forever.
Until we meet again, Said...
“Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we shall return.”
