

Nicolas P. Politis, a 43-year resident of Las Vegas, passed away Sunday, April 3, 2011. Born in Greece, June 10, 1934, Nicolas lived his teen years in Argentina before immigrating to the U.S. and deciding to make Las Vegas his permanent home. He worked 30 years at Caesars Palace. He started in the Bacchanal Restaurant and moved up to captain in the Circus Maximus Showroom (1971 to 2001). It was a job that brought him great pride. He was a man of great ideas, and lived to work. Nicolas and his wife, Alice, and son, Cristobal, founded Sandy Valley Farms 25 years ago. He remained very active in the daily operations of the company. He is survived by his family who loved him, his wife, Alice B. Politis; daughters, Norma P. McMahan and Sophia P. Penberthy; and sons, Peter N. Politis, M.D., and Cristobal Politis; sons-in-laws, Roy McMahan and Mark Penberthy; and daughter-in-law, Olayinka Harding, M.D. A beloved "Pappou" (grandfather), he will be dearly missed by his six grandchildren, Marcella McMahan, Sophia McMahan, Ruth Penberthy, Nicolas Politis, Chinaza Politis and Emiliano Politis. Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Sunday, April 10, with Trisagion service at 4 p.m., both at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89123. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 11, at St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, 5300 El Camino Road, Las Vegas, NV 89118. Burial will follow at Palm Valley View Memorial Park.
