Ralph Smith, Jr., the second child of Ralph and Fannie Mae Smith, was born on April 21,1940 in Los Angeles (Watts), California. Ralph was adored and best friend of his elder sister, Arvinola. Ralph was affectionately called “Brother Boy” by family members and friends.
Ralph attended 102nd Street School, Los Angeles Adventist Academy and David Starr Jordan High School (Watts, California). After attending college, he was a member of the Army Reserve. Ralph worked many years and retired in 1994 from Pacific Bell Telephone Company.
At an early age, Ralph joined his parents and sister who were active members at Macedonia Baptist Church in Los Angeles, California. He grew up singing in the choir and participating in youth groups and ministries. He later attended Canyon Ridge Christian Center and then followed Ludy to Trinity Life Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
After many years of residing in Compton, California Ralph chose Las Vegas to spend his retirement days. He enjoyed being the family Las Vegas tour guide and host. He was always jovial, talkative, knowing, and kind-hearted. He was also a Mr. Fix-It man. He felt and usually could fix any and everything. He enjoyed traveling in his motor home and/or car to visit and celebrate special occasions and holidays with family and friends.
In 2010, he met and shared memorable moments with Suthinee Laoniyomthai (Ludy). She remained by his side until his passing on March 7, 2019.
Ralph (“Brother Boy”) was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Fannie Mae Smith, and
niece, Laurinda Neal.
He will be affectionately remembered and never forgotten by Suthinee “Ludy” Laoniyomthai; his sister, Arvinola Neal (Oscar); niece, Pamela Neal-Robinson; nephews, Melvin Neal and Anthony Neal; great-niece, Ingrid Robinson; great-nephews, Anthony II, Kristopher (also his godson) and Christian Neal; great-great nephew, Tyler Bass; aunts, Rhumania Jordan and Harriet Jordan; Suthinee’s family- Noel Laoniyomthai (Nonny), Sherwin Laoniyomthai and Rebecca Smith (Gilbert); many cousins; neighbors and friends.
