The family relocated to the Las Vegas valley in 1970, and Robert attended Southern Nevada Vocational Technical School where he studied electronics and met the love of his life, Angela Kay “Angie” Friedrichs. Robert and Angela married on March 3, 1990, and had two amazing children, Jason Ray and Hailee Mae.
Robert, “Sly” as he was known at the station, selflessly served the Henderson Community as a fire fighter for 26 years, until he retired in 2018. In his spare time, Robert enjoyed working with his hands. He could fix anything! He was creative and artistic! If he could imagine something, he could create it out of metal, wood, or even junk. His only handicap was that he was colorblind. Luckily, his wife is also artistic and helped him with his project’s color palettes. Robert also had a talent for music and could recreate songs he heard only once on his guitar, entertaining his family and friends constantly. He loved cars, motorcycles, dirt bikes, and the camaraderie that came along with those toys. Robert shared his many talents and interest with his family and friends, riding at the sand dunes, hosting Rock Band Game nights, building custom kitchens, problem-solving vehicle repairs, creating custom Christmas ornaments…the list is endless.
Robert will be remembered by those who knew him best as a servant, helper, fixer, creator, friend, family member, and as someone who loved deeply and completely. He will be missed by many.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.palmeastern.com for the Sylvester family.
