Robin was born on October 21, 1966, in Las Vegas, Nevada, the daughter of Fawn Harding and John William Simpson, Jr. The second child and only daughter, she was Daddy’s little girl. From a young age, she enjoyed music, memorizing lyrics and singing tunes in the car. She went on to play the saxophone, performing as first chair and then drum major in the “United Valley Viking Marching Machine” at Valley High School in Las Vegas. She was also a member of the Jazz Band, Concert Band, and Symphonic Band. She played the bassoon and French horn. She graduated from Valley High School in 1984.
She learned to drive the family’s 1978 Ford LTD, a long light green car that she would fondly call the “Lima Bean”. Robin worked at the Renaissance Center, a well-known shopping center in Las Vegas, where she saved up for her first car, a red Ford Escort. She took a line of one of her favorite movies, Top Gun, and put “IFTNFS” on her license plate – “I feel the need for speed”.
Robin was all about having a good time. She liked to dance, ski, go to the movies and concerts, watch sports, and play games. All these things, Dean Bryan, found attractive. They started dating at Brigham Young University after meeting at an institute class at University of Nevada Las Vegas. They were married for time and all eternity in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, St. George Temple on November 22, 1986.
Ahead of becoming a full-time homemaker, she worked in a dental lab and then as a dental assistant. Robin had five children and enjoyed raising them in the gospel of Jesus Christ, attending every sporting event, dance recital, horse event, practice and game alike. Her children were her focus in every way. She was an excellent Mother.
She loved horses, romantic paperback novels, a diet coke with or without lemon, and having fun. Having fun would include cheering for the Golden Knights, concerts, Broadway shows, and traveling, especially to New York and England.
Robin always wanted to retire at the beach, and she eventually got her wish. The beach was a sure bet to bring her family together and she exercised that card all she could. Her happy place was in her rocking chair at the beach house in Newport Beach, California, where she was able to spend time visiting with family and friends, watch her Golden Knights, and listening to her grandkids play.
Her demeanor was one of patience and calm. She did wear her heart on her sleeve and let you know how she felt but did it in a non-confrontational way. She’d share all of her passions, skills, and time with anyone and everyone. She would happily take every assignment given to her. Among her various Church callings, she especially loved being with the Young Women, celebrating with them and cheering them on. She once served as a girls camp cook, despite being a cook. Robin was proactive when she had an opportunity to help someone in need.
