At the age of 18, he joined the United States Navy where he served as an electronics technician
and achieved the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer. His military career lasted for over 30 years.
On May 11, 1957, at the age of 22, he married the love of his life, the Swiss-born Huguette
Montell (née Veuthey, 1933-2008). He attended Clark County Community College, where he
graduated in 1984 with his AAS in Data Processing. In 1990, he graduated from the University
of Nevada, Las Vegas with a BS in Business Administration.
In his later life, Trigger spent much of his time at his daughter’s cabin in Duck Creek, Utah,
where he worked each day maintaining ATVs, spending time on the porch with his children and
grand-children, and overfeeding the family dogs when he thought no one was looking. He
enjoyed cherry tobacco from his pipe, which he always carried. He took pride in his turquoise
and silver jewelry, which he was never without. He loved black coffee and sweets, which he
made time for each day. Back at his home in Las Vegas, he enjoyed an independent life in good
health. Here, he enjoyed visiting his children every week to catch up, watching his favorite
spaghetti western films and the Hallmark channel, and overfeeding the family’s dogs when he
thought no one was looking. When we talk about Roy now, we will talk about his sharp wit, his
dry humor, his familiar stories, and the sayings he never ran out of.
He passed at the age of 86 on November 1, 2021 at Dignity Health St Rose Dominican Hospital
in Henderson, NV at 12:04am with his two daughters, Yvette Harris and Cherie Johnson, at his
side. He is survived by his two other children, Michelle Wheeler and Guy Montell, as well as his
nine grandchildren (Shane and Dillon Wheeler; Madison and Cameron Harris; Brandi Ray; and
Jonathan, Erin, Roland, and Connor Johnson) and five great-grandchildren.
Following his wishes, no service will be held. Roy was a private person and wouldn’t have
wanted much fuss.
