Samuel Lee Taylor was born in Austin, Texas on January 3, 1936 to Lloyd Taylor and Willie Bea Darden. He graduated from Anderson High School in 1954. Due to his exemplary academia, as well as participation in basketball and music, Samuel was offered three scholarships: one to Grambling University, Prairie View University, as well as Texas A&M. He declined those offers so that he could pursue a future in California, where he attended Los Angeles City College. He believed in working his way to the top, so after college, he accepted a job at a federal company initially starting out as a clerk. He still wanted more from life, so he then started working as a supervisor for a stationery company. It was during this period that he met Chris Davis. Their union resulted in four children: Christie, Junior, Jaye and Sean. Samuel was passionate about sports, jazz, reading, art, and philanthropy. He shared these passions and love of the outdoors with his children. Samuel was preceded in death by her father Lloyd; mother Willie Bea Darden; daughter Jaye; son Sean; and son-in-law Ralph Madison. He is survived by his wife Chris; children Christie Madison and Junior Taylor; granddaughters Monique, Kelly, Tracy, Charrisse and Yvette; great-grandchildren Evelyn, Dominic, Trenton, Ja’Maree, and Jasmine; stepmother Hattie Taylor; cousins Johnny, Betty, Beverly, Lowell Jr., Jan, Kim and Jeffrey; sisters Fannie and Patricia; brother Eugene; and a plethora of nieces, nephews and extended family.
