Vincent William Murphy was known as many things to many people. He was a loved one, a friend, and someone special. To family and friends who knew him best, Vincent will be remembered as a very exceptional person.
Vincent was born on April 11, 1939 at French Hospital in New York City, New York (Manhattan). He was the son of Mary and Thomas Murphy. Vincent grew up in New York City.
Vincent was raised with five siblings. He had one older brother, Tommy; one younger brother, Charlie; and three younger sisters, Dolores, Gloria and Marlene. Vincent was usually involved in all sorts of activities with his siblings. He and his siblings experienced rivalries typical of a growing family, but they shared many life experiences over the years.
As a young boy, Vincent had a number of interests. Like most children, he enjoyed playing and making up games. He was curious about the world around him and was often eager to explore it. Vincent was an active child who took part in roller hockey, baseball, stickball, skully and curb ball. He was a altar boy, on weekends to earn money he would spit-shine shoes using his own box, and would sell the Daily News and the Daily Mirror newspapers. In his spare time he liked collecting and trading baseball cards and reading comic books. For fun, him and his friends would tape skates on the bottom of their shoes and skate around the neighborhood. However, to Vincent, the most fun to be had was simply playing and spending time with his friends.
A typical teenager, Vincent had a fairly happy high school experience, making that critical transition from adolescence to adulthood. He graduated from Cardinal Hays High School in 1957. He enjoyed some classes more than others, having favorite subjects and teachers.
Always considered a “good” friend to those he knew him. While growing up, his best friend was his brother, Tommy.
Vincent’s faith was the most important thing to him and he loved to pray. He was a member the Catholic church.
Simply stated, Vincent was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Vincent leaves behind him a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life he touched will always remember Vincent William Murphy.
