Walter "Walt" J. Whittemore, 82, of Las Vegas, passed away April 24, 2012. He was born June 9, 1929, in Watertown, Mass. to Carroll and Charlotte Whittemore. A U.S. Naval enlisted man, he served his country during the Korean and Vietnam wars and retired Sept. 1, 1974 as a lieutenant commander. Beloved spouse of Fran, Walt and Fran were married in Elizabeth City, N. C., July 2, 1950. He is survived by his wife, Fran; children, Donna and Michael (Mayela); grandchildren, Jimmy, Riky, Manders, Gigi, Sammi, David, Michael, Gerald and Stephanie; and six great-grandchildren. "Pop-Pop" loved fishing, going out to eat, sharing jokes, stories and history with his family, but the best gift was his love and just being with him. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 3, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 5485 E. Charleston Blvd. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Buchanan Blvd., Boulder City.
