Gonzalo came to Texas from Mexico at the age of 24 and was one of sixteen children. He built a life defined by hard work, independence, and a deep connection to the land. A cowboy at heart, he worked as a foreman at Flying K Ranch in Leander and traveled throughout the United States. He was married to his beloved wife, Aurora, 66 years. He was a proud father to three daughters: Sylvia Hernandez, Dora Hernandez, and Maria Allocca.
Gonzalo enjoyed cooking, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family. He loved horses, cattle, and ranch life, and he had a lifelong appreciation for rodeos, wrestling, and boxing. He spent many summers in Wyoming attending rodeos, a tradition he looked forward to each year. He was especially known for his empanadas, cowboy bread, amaretto cake, fruit cookies, flour tortillas, and his barbecue.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Aurora, and his father, Tomas; and eight siblings: Baltazar, Ramiro, Tomas, Jesus, Antonia, Florinda, Esperansa, and Aurora.
He is survived by his wife, Aurora; his daughters, Sylvia Hernandez, Dora (Nick) Hernandez, and Maria (Felice) Allocca; his brothers, Gaspar, Oscar, and Roberto; his sisters, Christina, Arjelia, and Estela; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
