Nell and her husband Jasper previously lived in Hico, Levelland, Dimmitt, Lubbock, and Ropesville, Texas before moving to Austin and faithfully serving at Westover Hills Church of Christ in 1979. Upon entry into the church building, Nell and Jasper would be the first to greet anyone new who came through the door. Even in their older years, Nell and Jasper took their greeting ministry seriously, remembering the names of every visitor and encouraging them to become involved. After working with Floor Master and later Floor King, Nell started her own decorating business, Nell’s Windo and Décor. She loved working with clients, creating beauty through window treatments, carpet, paint and her personal touch: throw pillows.
Nell is survived by her adoring children, daughter Teena Chidester, son Bart Proffitt, and youngest daughter Penny Billingsley, along with their spouses Chet Chidester, Lisa Proffitt and Mark Billingsley. Nell is further survived by nine grandchildren: Christopher McDonald and wife, Julianne; Zach McDonald; Meghan McDonald Carlson and husband, Rachael; Jonathan Proffitt; Courtnie Stephenson and her husband, Gary; Elizabeth McAnally and her husband, Benjamin; Erica Lish and her husband, William; and eleven great grandchildren. Nell is also survived by her foster daughter Glenda Turnbill and her children Valerie and Melvin, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and very dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Jasper and her baby daughter, Jill. Nell was the last surviving child of her deceased parents, EV and Jackie Dunn. Nell’s two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
