James Jay Stephenson was born to Dick and Jesse Bell Stephenson on August 24, 1947 in Drumright, Oklahoma. He was the youngest of five children respectively, Sharon, Jerry Allen, Phyllis, and John. Jim is preceded in death by his father (Dick), his mother (Jesse Bell), his step-mother (Marjorie), his sister (Sharon), brother (Jerry Allen), and his brother (John).
Jim joined the United States Marine Corp at 17 years old and served three tours in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant and received the Rifle Expert Badge, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Good Conduct Medal during his time of service.
Jim began his forty year career in 1974 with Texas Instruments in Dallas, Texas, continued in Lubbock, Texas and retired in Austin, Texas in 2014.
Jim married Kitten Lewallen on June 4, 1982 in Lubbock, Texas. Together they raised two children, Tammy Stephenson Shupp and Robert Stephenson. Jim and Kitten moved to Austin, Tx in 1995 and have been married for 36 years.
Jim is survived by his sister, Phyllis; his wife, Kitten; his daughter, Tammy Shupp and husband, Curtis; his son Robert Stephenson and wife, Melanie; a bonus daughter, Barbara Lynn and husband, Allen; 4 grandchildren; 3 bonus grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 1 bonus great-grandchild. Survivors also include many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Jim began his lengthy and valiant battle against Cancer in 2005. Since then, there have been many ebbs and flows, laughter and tears, stories told and memories made. Jim “PawPaw” Stephenson succumbed to his illness on March 28, 2019 at his residence surround by his loved ones.
Following a Funeral Service, at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 1200 S. Bagdad, Leander, Texas, Jim will be laid to rest with his military brothers in arms at 2:00 P.M. at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas with a military honors ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent through blood donation with a United Blood Services Agency, or memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society or any cancer organization of your personal choosing in remembrance of Jim.
