Mike was born on July 29, 1949, in Glencoe, Minnesota. He grew up with strong values of hard work, humility, and service—qualities that would define his life. From 1969 to 1971, he proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps.
On August 16, 1970, Mike married the love of his life, Lynette Havemeier. Together, they built a life rooted in love and dedication, living in Gaylord, Minnesota until 1987, when they moved to Austin, Texas.
Mike spent many years working at Poquette Chevrolet and Implement (1961–1987) and later at 3M (1987–2007). A devoted and dependable worker, he took great pride in everything he did. He was very active in the 3M Club, serving in many roles including treasurer, and later became a proud member of the Quarter Century Club after retirement.
A faithful member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church since 1987, Mike continued to serve others even in retirement. He volunteered every Wednesday with the church group known as the “Hogs” and was deeply involved in the church’s annual “Follow the Star” production each Christmas—something he looked forward to every year.
After retiring, Mike and Lynette traveled extensively, creating cherished memories together. Mike had an incredible sense of direction—he was a natural GPS who never needed a map—but more than that, he was someone others could always rely on. Just as he could find his way anywhere, he helped guide and support those around him with quiet strength and steady care. At home, he found joy in simple pleasures—spending time with family, riding his motorcycle, camping, boating, and playing cards and board games.
Quiet and humble, Mike let his actions speak for him. He was always the first to lend a hand, never seeking recognition but always showing up when it mattered most. His love for his family and friends ran deep and true, and it was felt in the countless small and meaningful ways he cared for those around him. His steady presence, generous heart, and quiet kindness will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Mike is survived by his loving wife, Lynette Harens; his daughters, Kelly Adams (Mike) and Katherine Benitez (Rudy); and his cherished grandchildren, Ezekiel Adams, Juaquin Benitez, and Lilyana Benitez, who brought him endless pride and joy. He is also survived by many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mindy Harens; his parents, William and Elizabeth Harens; and his siblings, Terry Harens and Victor Harens.
Mike will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his strength, kindness, and the many ways he made life better for those around him.
