With tender gratitude and sadness, the Nesby and Sinn families announce the passing of their beloved husband, father, and poppa, Patrick Nesby. Born in Magnolia, Texas on March 17th 1935, Patrick was a country boy who would grow up watching dirt roads and tangled woodlands slowly transform into Houston. Rumors are he is a seventh generation Texan. What’s for certain is that, despite briefly living in Colorado and Nevada, and having travelled to every state in the continental U.S., only Texas was home.
Patrick served in the Army Special Forces with various assignments in the South Pacific. He was trained by veterans of WWII. During his service he would spend a lot of time in jungles, become an expert in firearms, and jump out of many helicopters. After leaving the service, he worked as a welder and helped build the Astrodome and oil rigs. He would become a Teamster truck driver achieving 1,000,000 miles across the U.S. He remembered every single sunset he drove through and saw all of God’s work across those miles which soaked into his being making him evermore pliable, gentle, and reflective.
Patrick knew everything there ever was to know about how to make cars run built on or before 1985. He could wire and rig electricity to buildings with ease. He could and did build any manor of structures to house tools or animals. With his advanced welding skills, he fashioned a washing machine into a children’s wagon. His dog houses had shingled roofs and a window. He made beautiful children’s toys and rockers out of wood. He loved Galveston, the Rocky Mountains, stars in the sky, his family and God. He was extraordinarily competent and unmovable in his compassion and faith. He had zero doubts whatsoever about the everlasting and eternal promise of our Lord and Savior.
Patrick is preceded in death by his first wife Sadie Nesby; his parents James and Willie Mae Nesby; his sisters Joann Adams and Lois Johnson; his brother Lewis Nesby and his wife Barbara; and his brother Lyrie Nesby. Patrick is survived by his wife of 58 years, Edith Nesby of Leander, Texas; his sons Patrick Nesby of Austin, Texas; and Louis Nesby of Dripping Springs, Texas; his daughter Sabra Glover of Vinita, Oklahoma; and his daughter Melissa Anthony Sinn also of Leander, Texas, as well as several grandchildren including Hannah and Liam Sinn. In his later years, he would share a multigenerational home with his wife, daughter Melissa and her twins Hannah and Liam.
A memorial service for Patrick will be held Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 11:00 AM with lunch to follow at Bethany United Methodist Church, 10010 Anderson Mill Rd., Austin, TX 78750.
