
Richard Toller Holt, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and esteemed professional, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on May 14, 1945, at St. Mary Corwin Hospital in Pueblo, Colorado
Raised in the close-knit community of Walsenburg, Colorado, Richard developed a profound sense of duty and resilience. He proudly served as a U.S. Marine Sergeant, exemplifying discipline and honor. His diverse and distinguished career reflected his unwavering commitment to helping others. As a highly respected paramedic at Denver General Hospital, Richard saved countless lives with his expertise and calm presence. He also served as a Commerce City Police officer, demonstrating his dedication to public safety.
Richard’s ambition led him to a successful career at American Family Insurance, where he earned numerous accolades and built a distinguished reputation. Yet, his heart drew him back to the medical field. After earning his Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and pursuing Nurse Practitioner studies, Richard began nursing throughout Colorado and Texas, where his excellence, wisdom, and unique ability to comfort patients crafted his enduring medical legacy.
Even after retiring, Richard’s passion for medicine remained vibrant. He found great joy in tutoring and mentoring medical students, encouraging them to persevere and embrace lifelong learning.
Richard is survived by his children, Natalie Edwards, Pamela Tesitor, Elsa Halbeisen (Dale), and Logan Erickson; his grandchildren, Ashley Hunt, Christina Hunt (Colby Krahn), Joshua Edwards (Amanda), Jessica Edwards, Brooke Edwards, Dylan Halbeisen (Katie), Parker Halbeisen, Austin Holt (Morgan), Matthew Erickson; and his great-grandchildren, Landry, Raegan, Dean, Hudson, Bryson, Hadley, Aiden, and Easton.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Elsie Irene Holt (Richard Bectal Holt), his wife, Barbara Lynn Holt, his father, Samuel Tesitor Taylor, and his son, Gregory Scott Holt.
Richard’s legacy of love, leadership, and service leaves behind big shoes to fill. In a moment guided by something greater, Richard took his final breath with the support of three grandsons. They held his hand, prayed, and offered him comfort, just as he did for so many throughout his life. He may be gone, but the memories and lessons he gifted to his family will endure. Richard's spirit was one of compassion, wisdom, dedication, resilience, and craftsmanship—a legacy that will forever inspire all who knew and loved him.
