Richard Mark Peeples was born on August 21, 1958, to Melvin and Betty Peeples in Pampa, Texas. He passed on February 7, 2026 at the age of 67. Mark was raised in Austin and later spent his career in oilfield/agricultural construction while living in Alice and San Antonio.
Mark met the love of his life, Susan Cornelius, in about 1984 and they were married December 28, 1986, until Susan’s passing in September of 2024. Although they never had children, nieces and nephews (and even kids in the neighborhood) became “theirs” to care for as their own.
Mark had a variety of interests – none more so than a good road trip with Susan in the passenger seat. He was always ready to turn the ignition key and head somewhere - Yellowstone, West Texas, Boca Chica, and other destinations that struck their fancy. They also loved live music and might be at a venue in San Antonio one night and Austin a couple nights later with tickets in his pocket for Tom Petty or Bob Seger in a city a few hundred miles away. And over the past few years, Mark and Susan could be found most Tuesday nights at El Mercado, always at the same table, listening to their friend Ernie Durawa and his cohorts. It’s also hard to think of Mark without thinking of his many dogs – from the legendary Jed to the show dogs he raised for a while and the many strays that found a home with him and Susan.
Over the last few years, Mark and Susan lived in Austin with Betty, providing exactly what was needed for her to live in the home she has been in since 1976 – taking her to the doctors and hair appointments, taking care of the groceries and things around the house. Mark was a good cook and loved to cook for her. They even got her out to the clubs for some music occasionally. Mark continued to take great care of her until his last days.
Mark was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Peeples, and his wife of almost 38 years, Susan Peeples.
He is survived by his mother Betty Peeples; brothers Bob Peeples and Alan (Reyna) Peeples; sister-in-laws Coiece (Scott) Pyle and Lisa Sramek; nieces and nephews Duane Peeples, Philip (Tasha) Peeples, Kara (Garrett) Evins, Lorien (Connor) Hart, Gabriel Peeples, Colby (Ashley Camarillo) Sramek, Danilyn Overton, Kristi Pyle, Aaron (Lindsay) Pyle, Colleen (Jerad) Schneider; great nieces and nephews Brandon (Ella) Peeples, Tyler Peeples, Coye Pyle, Owen Pyle, Jolee Schneider, Jaycee Schneider, Michael Villarreal, Ryker Overton, Ace Camarillo-Sramek, Rex Camarillo-Sramek, Sly Camarillo-Sramek, Mark Makovey and Michelle Makovey; and the neighbor boy Anton.
