

Elva M. Risser Garvie, 88, Elmcroft, formerly of E. Mifflin St., Lebanon, died Sunday February 27, 2011 in the Lebanon Good Samaritan Hospital. She was the wife of the late Herbert C. Garvie who preceded her in death in 2006. She was born in Lebanon on August 3, 1922 a daughter of the late Warren and Mary Clark Risser. She was a 1940 graduate of Lebanon High School and was a retired buyer and manager of the Infant Wear Department of Haak Brothers Store with over 25 years of service. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church and the former 7th Street Lutheran Church where she had been president of the Young Women’s Class. She had been a member of the former Lebanon Women’s Business Club; and sang in the a cappella choir in high school. She enjoyed spending quality time with her grandchildren. She loved gardening and cooking. She and her late husband enjoyed travelling extensively, entertaining and dining out. Mrs. Garvie also enjoyed shopping trips to Hess Brothers Department Store in Allentown. She is survived by sons: Thomas C. and wife Phyllis E. Garvie, Harrisburg; Terry J. “Jay” Garvie, Harrisburg; grandchildren: Leanne J. wife of David Parke; Brian T. and wife Ashley Garvie; great-grandchildren: Tayen Sarah Parke, Wesley Thomas Garvie and Jaylea Marie Garvie. She was preceded in death by a great grandson: Chase Thomas Parke. Funeral services will be Saturday at 11:00 A.M. in Salem Lutheran Church, 119 N. 8th St., Lebanon, Pa 17046, where a viewing will be held beginning at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be made in the Covenant Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Children’s Department of her church or to the Humane Society of Lebanon County, 150 N. Ramona Rd., Myerstown, PA 17067.
